Your serial number is either missing or incorrect

31 10 2006

When TurboCAD v12 and 12.1 are installed into computers that are part of a LAN network the serial number may disappear from the registry when users with different rights use the software.

This issue will also occur in previous versions of TurboCAD when a user without rights to rewrite the registry attempts to install the program. There have also been random occurrences of this problem reported.

This bug is fixed in version 12.2. There are two things you can do to get TurboCAD up and running. I strongly recommend that you leave this up to your system administrator. For this example I will use the paths to Professional V12

1) Manually enter the serial number into the registry.

a) From the start menu select Run…

b) Type “regedit” into the “Open” field and press OK

c) Browse to the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ IMSI \ TurboCAD Professional v12

d) Right click the “SN” entry and select “Modify”

e) Type your serial number into the “Value data” field then press OK

f) TurboCAD should now open up correctly and the serial number should stick.

2) If manually entering the serial number dose not work, you will then need to install TurboCAD as an administrator local to the specific machine. (not a network domain)

There can be further complications if the 12.1 patch is applied. The 12.1 patch creates paths that are not accessible to all users and prevents TurboCAD from being opened by anyone other than users with administrative rights. If you run into this issue please send me an email.
